D&G Dolce & Gabbana

In 1994 Designers Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana launched their contemporary younger line “D&G Dolce & Gabbana”. The collections have appeared on some of the biggest stars with the likes of Madonna, Kylie, Duffy, Mark Ronson, Katy Perry and John Legend, frequently choosing the Italian Duo’s contemporary collection for special occasions.

2009 sees D&G take another step into the more luxurious world of fashion with menswear essentials such as chunky cardigans, polo shirts and double breasted coats given the Dolce and Gabbana treatment.

The current AW09 D&G collection is available now at Coggles.com

Religion - perfect for rockers and femme fatales

If you are not immediately familiar with the Religion brand you may be forgiven as for the first few years following its birth in 1989 it remained a largely underground label. Since then it has matured into a distinguished brand with a strong hold in the international marketplace and a celebrity following, which in turn has raised the brand’s profile. Kate Moss, Gwen Stefani, Victoria Beckham and Kylie Minogue have all been captured by the paparazzi camera wearing Religion.

The latest collection is sharp, vibrant and full of Victorian references, perfect for rockers and femme fatales. Key pieces include leather biker jackets, slashed black jeans and wet-look mini dresses.

The current AW09 Religion collection is available now at Coggles.com

DIESEL BLACK GOLD - WORKED-OVER WORKWEAR

Everyone is talking about the latest creations emerging from the Diesel powerhouse and the most recent offering is already making waves in the fashion world. Unlike many brands who are currently introducing diffusion and bridge lines, Diesel have opted for a different route, almost creating a new brand to push the Diesel concept even further. It is aimed at the loyal customer who has grown up with Diesel and now demands a more mature collection, a customer whose taste has shifted from the merely fashionable, to an eye for detail, texture, fabric and cut.

For AW09 we travel back in time to the start of the Great Depression with jazz era influenced clothes appearing stained, aged and broken down. Sturdy boots, lots of layering and an oversize bag complete the look and ensure we’re prepared for current recession eventualities.

The current AW09 Diesel Black Gold collection is now available at Coggles.com

TWENTY8TWELVE - "ROCK CHIC WEARABLE!"

Sienna Miller’s Twenty8Twelve was inspired by a crazy amalgamation of Grace Jones meets the highwayman with the old school Victorian referencing flipped on its head and forced head long in to the birth of new wave and androgynous power dressing. Distorted proportion and referenced sportswear give the collection a modern and fresh vibe, with AW09 described by Vogue as “just right for a rock chic: wearable, a bit romantic, and very sexy.”

The current AW09 Twenty8Twelve collection is now available at Coggles.com

ALBERTA CROSS - BROKEN SIDE OF TIME

The full-length debut album from the hairy Anglo-Swedish outfit follows up the 2007 mini album The Thief And The Heartbreaker. Good as that first outing was, it was but a warm-up for the soaring lift-off performed here. This is thrilling and impassioned rock, full of heart, soul and unease. Theirs is a ravaged but exhilarating world, and it's well worth a visit.

ONE ESKIMO - THE ADVENTURES OF ONE ESKIMO

One EskimO is a four-piece indie band from London whose unique sound has an ambient, electro-acoustic pop feel. Their debut album provides the backdrop for a groundbreaking audio-visual experience combining music and animation in the first ever visual album. This epic love story includes 10 captivating episodes with stunning animation, breathtaking landscapes and whimsical characters that take you on a musical journey not to be forgotten.

TIMBERLAND BOOT CO - WORKWEAR INSPIRED FOOTWEAR FOR WOMEN

We've been big fans of Timberland Boot Co. for some time at Coggles.com so we're delighted to be stocking the women's collection for the first time this season.

Inspired by women’s workwear during the time period 1918-1945, which started with women gaining the vote and culminated with the end of WWII, the collection celebrates a very empowering period in history for women. Despite the hardship faced by most and employment for many in manufacturing roles traditionally the preserve of men, there was never a loss of femininity and the workwear silhouettes of the time have been faithfully translated into the present day. The result is a perfect mix of purpose and beauty, combined with a quality and attention to detail that makes these shoes and boots as dependable as the women they pay tribute to.
The current AW09 Timberland Boot Co. collection is available now at Coggles.com

G-STAR - ROUGH, RUDIMENTARY AND RAW

From its conception in 1989, G-Star has been known for its innovative and cutting edge style in the world of denim. Pushing the boundaries, continuous experimentation and product development has led to a strong following worldwide. The rough, rudimentary and raw characteristics of the brand allow G-Star to maintain its distinct and unorthodox style with AW09 featuring outerwear, shirts and cardigans distinctly 'armed forces' in feel, along with plenty of denim, all in typically austere G-Star colour palette.

The current AW09 G-Star collection is available now at Coggles.com

WOOLRICH WOOLEN MILLS - INSPIRED BY THE GREAT AMERICAN OUTDOORS

The values of American history and tradition are held in high esteem by Woolrich and this is pleasingly apparent from their new AW09 collection. Japanese designer Daiki Suzuki took hunting and fishing for his inspiration and the result is clothing getting back to basics - pared down to its most simplistic interpretation yet all the while retaining a sense of the great American outdoors.

The ‘silent exclusivity’ of Woolrich makes it a brand favoured by the most discerning – clothing with a purpose that is reliable and rewarding in equal measures. Our favourites this season are the Upland Wool Shadow Plaid Jacket in red and navy with concealed ‘Poacher Pockets’ and the Polo Melton Wool Coat in navy with detachable hunting scene quilted lining.

The current AW09 Woolrich Woolen Mills collection is available now at Coggles.com

PPQ - LUXE-POP CHIC

PPQ was founded in 1992 by designers Amy Molyneux and Percy Parker. Their clothes are renowned for being luxurious and high glamour party pieces with an edge, which the brand describes as luxe-pop chic.

Coveted by style conscious celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst, Sienna Miller, Keira Knightley, Jade Jagger, Agyness Deyn and Peaches Geldof, this season's collection features patchwork prints, elegant jumpsuits and satin shorts in a vibrant colour palette, firmly establishing PPQ as one of the hottest labels of the moment.
The current AW09 PPQ collection is available now at Coggles.com

NATURAL SELECTION - PREMIUM DENIM, SURVIVAL OF THE FITTEST

Denim connoisseurs are used to thinking in terms of evolution when it comes to Jeans, affectionately following the ageing process and admiring the subsequent variations that make each pair unique. Perhaps unsurprisingly then a new premium denim label has taken Darwin’s theory of evolution as its inspiration. Named ‘Natural Selection,’ the label thankfully lives up to its hype. Made from 14.5 oz, red selvedge, narrow-width denim from Kurabo Mills, Okayama Japan, with washes ranging from raw through to ‘bruised’, ‘broken’ and finally ‘buried,’ heritage detailing is everywhere with all workmanship authentic and to the highest standard.

If that wasn’t enough to get even the most discerning denim fan hot beneath the collar, each pair features a beautifully hand drawn illustration upon the leather patch specially designed by the graphic artist Reilly as well as a complementary leather bound booklet with a brief introduction to Natural Selection and hand drawn sketches of the styles offered by the brand.

Definitely one of the most exciting new labels of the season, we’re delighted to be stocking Natural Selection at Coggles.com.

THE BIG PINK - A BRIEF HISTORY OF LOVE

This East London duo have great expectations riding on their debut album. It delivers by the spadeful, spectacularly updating the indie-rock of Echo And The Bunnymen and My Bloody Valentine with heavy-duty computerised beats. Factor in lyrics of starlit romance and some storming tunes, and A Brief History shapes up as something of a modern masterpiece.

RE-STOCK - ODD MOLLY

The latest collection to make its way from the design studio in Stockholm to Coggles features classic Odd Molly pieces. Chunky knits, crocheted wrap cardigans with tassel ties and cropped jacket-come-jumper creations come in muted tones of stone and chalk with the accompaniment of shades of raspberry and rose. The smocked vests feature beautiful embroidery and are perfect for winter layering. Silk mini-dresses have been created in an array of folk prints and colours which can be worn with thick tights and boots by day and with dainty heels by night. The intricate patterns and attention to detail like the embroidered tattoo emblem serve in making each piece individual, an accidentally perfect mismatch.

The current Autumn/Winter Odd Molly collection is now available at Coggles.com

ROBE DI KAPPA - ITALIAN MOD UNIFORM

Robe Di Kappa was founded in 1960’s Italy, the birthplace of clean modern (Mod) clothing. The renowned ‘Omini’ logo also dates back to a 1969 accidental photographic shot of a young man and woman, both naked and sitting back to back, their outlines traced by back lighting. The shot then became the new Robe Di Kappa logo, which soon became a recognised symbol of quality and style.

The new launch of Robe Di Kappa in to the UK brings together all the crisp simplicity of the very first Italian collections from the 1960’s, with polo shirts and lambs wool cardigans and v-necks in a simple but striking colour palette of grey, navy, pink and red.

The current Autumn/Winter Robe Di Kappa collection is now available at Coggles.com.

CHEAP MONDAY - PREMIUM DENIM, AFFORDABLE PRICE

Launched in 2004 the Cheap Monday concept was to provide premium denim at an affordable price. Surpassing this the brand has grown into a successful international brand and competes with high end options in both attitude and quality. Indeed it has become a bit of a cult item. Now the range has expanded beyond just denim to include t-shirts and vests, lace dresses and loose fit cardigans as they continue to innovate while staying true to the values that have made the brand such a success story.

The current Autumn/Winter Cheap Monday collection is now available at Coggles.com

PARAJUMPERS - INSPIRED BY ALASKA'S ELITE RESCUE SQUADRON

In 2005 Parajumpers emerged from Segusino of North Eastern Italy. The belief behind the brand is of quality and durability, inspired by Alaska’s 210th elite rescue squadron the garments effortlessly fuse style with functionality withstanding even the worst of natures elements.

The collection includes field, navy and bomber jackets in navy and sage, each with a seemingly endless list of features including parachute clip fastenings, hand warmer pockets and removable quilted linings for those not so cold days.

The current Autumn/Winter Parajumpers collection is now available at Coggles.com.

JUICY COUTURE - EAT CAKE, CHOOSE JUICY!

Pamela Skaist-Levy and Gela Nash-Taylor, wife of John Taylor – the base guitarist for rock band Duran Duran, are the design duo behind cult brand Juicy Couture. Both girls are known for their colourful personalities as much as they are for their exceptional fashion sense. Their love of bright colours and all things quirky combined with English aristocracy and tradition is a collective of the two girls personalities and the definition of the Juicy Couture brand.

This season sees the continuation of the brands changed direction, incorporating skirts, dresses and tops with a more sophisticated style into the range, further establishing Juicy as an edgy, high-end fashion label.

The current Autumn/Winter Juicy Couture collection is now available at Coggles.com.

GOI GOI GETS KASABIAN FRONTMAN

The Gio Goi boys have chosen Kasabian frontman, Tom Meighan, to fashion the ‘Flashback’ theme for the Autumn/Winter collection, which revisits the 1988 rave culture.

Gio Goi, renowned for using the 80’s music scene as an inspiration for their designs, are hoping the original logo printed onto a classic fit t-shirt will do the job.

Kasabian, who recently closed the July itunes festival, are warming up for what is set to be a mammoth gig headlining Creamfields festival in Liverpool this August.

Some people may think that
Gio Goi
have decreased the risk factor by investing in Kasabian, compared to previous models Pete Doherty and Amy Winehouse…
However, when it comes to burning the candle at both ends, Kasabian hold their own with the best of them.

Tom Meighan recently stated: “Since Kasabian came out, most of it has just been a blackout for me. Thank God I'm still here. I haven't gone to rehab, which is the genius thing.”

TIME
It is not clear who built the first cuckoo clocks in the Black Forest but there is unanimity that the unusual clock with the bird call very quickly conquered the region. Already by the middle of the eighteenth century, several small clockmaking shops produced cuckoo clocks with wooden gears. So the first Black Forest cuckoo clocks were created between 1740/50.
We have now added contemporary versions of the traditional wooden Bavarian cuckoo clock which are now available from designer Pascal Tarabay.

THE REASON BEING…

The Reason Being…I have heard some excuses in my time. Like when Sir Alex Ferguson blamed the colour of the Man Utd kit on the 3-0 defeat to Southampton back in 96’. Or when a speeding motorist recently told Northumbrian Police that aliens were chasing him and therefore had to accelerate beyond the speed limit.

But, Amy Winehouse’s spokesman trying to use “admin work” as the reason why the singer collapsed after signing autographs outside her house yesterday, is so bad, it’s all most great. He went onto say that doctors were unsure why she collapsed but are running further tests and may possibly keep Winehouse in overnight at The London Clinic. I’m no doctor, but as a betting man, I would love to place a cheeky fiver on the real reason she flaked out.

The 24-year-old has recently had her wealth estimated at £10 Million by The Sunday Times newspaper's Rich List. She is due to perform for Nelson Mandela later this month in Hyde Park. My advice Amy, have a chat with Nelson about wisdom, honour and how a 24-year-old should spend her cash. Oh and drink plenty of water.

NICOLE FARHI WINS LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT

Nicole Farhi has been awarded the lifetime achievement prize at the First Women Awards 2008.
The ceremony, which recognises women who are ‘trailblazers and pioneers’ in business, described the designer as an “extraordinary entrepreneur” whose "outlook and brand are the antithesis of the throwaway culture", Drapers reports.

Farhi, who was originally a sculptor, invaded the fashion world in the early 70’s when she co-founded French Connection. Ten years later, she launched Nicole Farhi.

In 1994 Nicole Farhi's flagship Bond Street store was launched which features her now reputable ‘Nicole's Restaurant’ in the basement.

1998 and 1999 saw the unveiling of the Farhi Home Collection followed by a flagship store opening in New York.

It’s true to say that Nichole Farhi has pioneered the way forward on many occasions in the fashion world fusing Mediterranean and British styles at her base in London.
And, we’ve been fans for ages.
